Update September 10, 2024: Flamengo had her first litter in February 2024. I am planning to re-breed her to Coydog for an early spring 2025 litter.
Thinking back if there was a time where I ever valued a cat this much in my breeding program, it would have probably been either my F1 Maine import "Sid" or maybe "Brock" or "Tigger"in the mid/late 90s. Flamengo's parents were the very best cats I have owned up to this present day. Both were precious imports from Bulgaria. Needless to say, I had high hopes for them. Rueben became hormonal at a younger age and put on Suprelorin. Somehow he did not manage to come off his chip after almost 3 years. So we had kind of given up and thought he'd be eternally chemically castrated. We scheduled his physical neutering appointment in great disappointment. At the same time, Cimona kept making me boys as "pick of litter" kittens and I kept waiting and waiting for a daughter out of her. Well, low and behold, the night before Reuben's vet appointment, Cimona suddenly went into heat and was bred by Rueben!! His one and only stand!! Yep, 5 gorgeous, healthy babies resulted!!! Some people called it a miracle, I called it providence. I do think my God surely has humor for cat breeders :-)
As breeders we get these rare moments were we think we "have arrived". These moments usually don't last longer than until the next generation (lol) but with Flamengo this definitely has been the case. Cimona and Reuben truly outdid themselves in this litter and Flamengo has inherited the very best from both her parents. Just like her mother, she is very calm, collected and super affectionate. Just like her father, she's a social, cuddly and peaceful chillbear. She is one of my largest females, if not THE largest. I feel she is extremely well put together and represents what I call a "true type" Maine Coon, again like both her parents. She stands on high legs, with a long and muscular body, superb coat quality and a fantastic head. Her facial features are at the right angles and distance, with a gentle, correct concave. I love her pedigree from both sides and hope to continue her lines in an outcrossed manner, by keeping future offspring between her and Coydog. I have owned and bred with many of Flamengo's anchestors, from the time when the Prairiebaby Cattery was still in my possession.
